Intumescent paint

PROMAPAINT® SC4 is a single component intumescent paint in water emulsion consisting of synthetic resin especially formulated to steel fire protection, approved on I and H section beams/columns and on circular and rectangular hollow section according to EN 13381-8.

Applications

  • Contribution to the fire resistance up to 120 minutes depending on structure.

PREPARATION

The surface to be treated shall be carefully prepared and in accordance with the instructions contained in the assessment reports.

Steel surface

  • PROMAPAINT®-SC4 is compatible to major zinc phosphate epoxy and alkyd primer.
  • New surfaces with rust shall be SA s ½ sand blasted or brushing and protected with corrosion preventing primer.
  • New surface painted with anticorrosive primer shall be washed to remove any contaminant material such as oil/grease.
  • Surface not requiring corrosion preventing paints (such as galvanised steel) shall be treated by adhesion promoter primer TY-ROX® at the rate of 0,1 to 0,15 kg/m2
  • Steel structures painted with inorganic zinc releasing product, shall be treated with an intermediate two-component epoxy coat or other suitable coat and only after complete drying apply PROMAPAINT®-SC4.
  • We recommend to contact our technical department. 

APPLICATION

Normally this product is applied by spray gun or for small surface/particular section, by brush or roll. For spray application, we recommend the use of airless pump piston type with the following requirements:

Electric piston pump

  • Minimum pressure 180-250 bar
  • Tube size 3/8

Pneumatic piston pump

  • Compression ratio 30:1
  • Tube size 3/8

A rigid suction tube is recommended (remove flexible rubber hose).

Remove filter in the suction tube and in the machine.

Gun shall be high-pressure type – 275 bar (remove the filter in the butt) – 0,025 inches size self-cleaning nozzle without diffuser. To minimise waste, the spray angle of the nozzle shall be chosen according to the type of the structure to be protected.

The product is ready for use, maximum dilution with 5% water. Clean tools immediately after use with water.

APPLICATION

No protective finish is required when applied on indoor protected structure and in normal environmental condition. For aesthetic reason the intumescent product can be paint with acrylic paint. 

For applications in chemically aggressive industrial environments or in high humidity atmosphere (semi-exposed condition) and to increase the mechanical strength characteristics of the surface (shock-abrasion) is necessary to apply two-component polyurethane coating with high resistance outside. We recommend to contact our technical department.

PROMAPAINT®-SC4 is not classified as dangerous according to 67/548/EEC ad its subsequent amendments. However, when handing the usual precaution for water-based paints and plastics for masonry are recommended (proper dress, gloves etc..). Do not inhale the sprayed product.
